Search Engine Optimization

>> 25.12.08

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization, which is to optimise a website or blog to a search engine so that this website or blog manage to get a high ranking in the search engine result. In my opinion, high ranking here means the first top ten result.

In my previous post, I mentioned that the internet is accessed mainly because people want information. Everytime they search for an info, they type a word or a sentence in the search engine box. The word or sentence typed in the search engine box is what we call keyword. If our article contains many words or sentences that resemble this keyword, the possibility of our site to get good ranking is higher.

The computer doesn't think. What it actually does is, searching for websites and blogs that contain the keyword that was keyed-in in the searh engine box. The result of the search engine software displays those websites or blogs that have the most keyword in its content in the highest rank. Get the idea? In order for our site to get a fairly good ranking, we need to use the right word in our content, that matches the keyword.

Ok, how do we know what is the right keyword to use? Do we need the ability to read other people's mind? Hehe, we don't need such power. You're reading this because you can't read mind. Can you?

Fortunately there are many websites available, for us to get this info. These websites tell us what keyword is frequently used in the search engine box. Some websites are free and of course many are not. If you wanna find out how frequent is your choice of keyword used in the search engine box, I suggest you to visit http://tools.seobook.com/. It's free.

Once you know which keyword is frequently used, your next step is to use this keyword as many as possible in your article. For example, you may use it as the title of your article, put it in the tag, meta tag, link etc. This is only one of several SEO techniques. Other techniques such as tagging, linking, etc, will be shared later.

Let me caution you though, some of you may already get the idea of putting your keywords all over the place and then hiding them by using the same colour for this keyword with the colour of the site's background. Do that and you'll find that your site will be banned. Hehehe. This is called Black Hat SEO.

That's it for this time. Experiment with it. No guarantee ok. At least that's one way. We need to use several techniques to get good result. Takes time. Seeee yaaa... (^_*)
